Frequently asked questions
Yes, East Sussex gets enough sunlight to make solar panels a sound investment for most homes. The average East Sussex household saves between £500 and £900 per year on electricity bills. With OVO’s 20p Smart Export Guarantee rate, you’ll also earn money on any surplus energy you export to the grid. Most systems pay for themselves within 8 to 10 years and last 25 years or more.
A typical home solar system in East Sussex costs between £5,000 and £8,000 installed, depending on the number of panels and whether you add a battery. OVO’s 0% finance means you can spread this over three years with no interest. See our full solar panel costs guide for a detailed breakdown of what affects the price.
Most East Sussex homes don’t need planning permission, solar panels are covered by permitted development rights. Exceptions include listed buildings and some conservation areas, particularly in parts of the East Sussex. OVO’s free survey will flag any planning requirements before you commit to anything.
Yes, the Warm Homes Plan is making grants available for eligible households across East Sussex. South East Sussex and West East Sussex also sit within Mayoral Authority areas that may access Local Growth Fund support from April 2026. OVO’s team can check what funding is available for your home as part of your free survey — at no cost and with no obligation.
